Jodi Fischer is teaching this course for the first time in Vancouver in March 2018. It is approved by ICHCC and VRA Canada for 14.5 CEUs, and CVRP for 13 CEUs.

This course provides Canadian content for Canadian practitioners. Jodi has conducted a survey and listened to what practitioners need and want in the life care care planning field for professional development, incorporating feedback from key players in the field attending her previous courses in 2016 and 2017.


Learning Objectives

This practical course provides foundational skills and strategies for addressing the most challenging issues we face in the functional assessment and life care planning fields. This course will arm you with the skills you need to remain current in the field.

Some of the major topics covered include:

  • Up-to-date review of Canadian Supreme Court judgments to inform your practice
  • Functional testing batteries to administer in the home and community to reliably determine disability and related needs
  • Assessment of housekeeping capacity and costing of home support services
  • How to communicate and incorporate recommendations from medical experts and rehabilitation providers into your reports
  • Applying aging related research to your plans
  • Respectfully and effectively critiquing other Life Care Plans


Target Audience

This course is designed for experienced healthcare professionals including occupational therapists, vocational rehabilitation consultants, kinesiologists, and physiotherapists providing functional assessments, rehabilitation plans, and/or cost of future care reports/life care plans for insurance providers and lawyers. Whether you practice in the rehabilitation, case management and/or life care planning field, this course is bound to strengthen your clinical practice.



Jodi Fischer, OT, CLCP, CWCE

Jodi Fischer is known as a dynamic speaker and educator, dedicated to helping practitioners improve the objectivity and defensibility of the functional assessments and life care plans they produce.

She has lectured and taught courses throughout North America for a variety of organizations including UBC, Matheson and Associates, the International Conference on Life Care Planning, the Canadian Society of Medical Evaluators, the Continuing Legal Education Society of BC, and EPIC Rehab.


She has been an occupational therapist for 24 years. She is a Certified Life Care Planner and Certified Work Capacity Evaluator. She is Director of Functional Outcomes Rehabilitation Services Inc., a medical-legal consulting firm in Vancouver, B.C.

She is a Clinical Assistant Professor at UBC where she developed the Life Care Planning curriculum for the Master of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy Program. She continues to teach the next generation of occupational therapists the importance of sound functional testing and cost of future care evaluation principles.

She is a qualified Expert Witness to the Supreme Court of British Columbia. She has published multiple times in the peer-reviewed literature.

The Morris J. Wosk Centre is located in the heart of downtown Vancouver. It is a convenient one block walk from transit (Waterfront Station).  The conference centre is directly adjacent to the Delta Suites Hotel (550 W. Hastings) should you require accommodation.

All day parking is available across the street at Diamond Parking lot (Pender and Seymour Lot), located at 443 Seymour Street for $10.00 per day (2017 rate). There is also parking available at the Delta Vancouver Suites hotel and the Conference Plaza (Segal Court at Seymour Street).


Cancellation/Refund Policy

All refund requests must be sent in writing. Requests received prior to early bird registration deadline (December 15, 2017) will be given a 50% refund. Refunds are not available after December 15, 2017. Rights are reserved to cancel or modify the offering.
